Sonoma County Lacrosse
Growth in Lacrosse
Sonoma County is continuing to grow but is still behind other parts of Northern California. Marin has had lacrosse for several decades and Contra Costa has full leagues of official school teams. Lacrosse has been picking up momemtum here over the past 5 years or so as we've added two CIF, or school teams, programs in Rohnert Park, Petaluma and Santa Rosa continue to grow. The Santa Rosa Lacrosse Club was the first high school club organized in the area in 1995.
The future of lacrosse in Sonoma County is looking good. Varsity programs for Santa Rosa, Petaluma and Casa Grande are among the best in the NCJLA. Petaluma Lacrosse club, in their third year, produced 3 NJCLA Champions for 2007; Boys JV, Boys Pee Wee B and Girls Junior A2. Petaluma has become the largest lacrosse club in Sonoma County in it's fourth year.
Cardinal Newman, currently 10-1, and Sonoma Academy, are both CIF teams playing in the Bay Area conference.
The third season of the Sonoma Indoor Lacrosse League is just around the corner. This year we plan on boys junior high and high school leagues, and a girls league.
The County's first select team was formed in 2006. The Sonoma County Vinemen traveled to Palm Dessert in January 08 for the La Quinta Lax Fest and took 2nd place in their bracket. The team also took 2nd place in 2007 and 3rd in 2006.
What's on this site? Here you will find information on the Sonoma County lacrosse scene. This site will have contacts for all clubs and CIF teams and describe the levels and which clubs have boys and/or girls.
